from the Algona Upper Des Moines paper in Algona, Iowa Jas. H. Palmer, Oldtimer Here Dies In Sleep James H. Palmer, 79, died in his sleep early Wednesday morning at his home in Algona. Mr. Palmer had been in failing health for several years. Funeral services will be held Friday, 2 p.m. at McCullough's chapel, the Rev. O.W. Brand officiating clergyman. Burial will be in Riverview. Mr. Palmer was born on Christmas Day in 1868 in Black Hawk county, and as a boy of 1 year was brought by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adam Palmer to Kossuth County. The family settled on a farm on the 'Black Cat' (creek) in Union township, and there the children grew up and attended country schools. On June 8, 1903 Mr. Palmer and Dorothy Amundson were married. The bride was born in Norway, and came first came to Kanawha after arrival in the United States in 1900. After a short time there she came to Algona. The couple married and first lived on a farm near Ledyard, but after four years returned to Algona, where Mr. Palmer farmed for some time. Mr. Palmer later served as rural mail carrier and as Algona city night watchman, and his last work, before ill health forced him to retire, was operating a cafe at the present Myers location on State Street. Mr. Palmer is survived by his wife and seven children: Mrs. James Elbert and Mrs. Robert Nute, Waterloo; Clayton Palmer, Spencer; Mrs. Hilda Ancell, Fort Dodge; Harold Palmer, and Mrs. Arlouine Leaneagh, Algona. There are eight grandchildren; also a brother at Albert Bend, Ore.
