'The History of Marion County, Ohio', published 1883, contains a biographical sketch of Martha ( Montgomery) Henderson and names her parents as William and Jane (Patten) Montgomery of Washington Co PA - natives of PA but of Irish descent. The book lists ten children for William and Jane, three listed as still living at the time the book was prepared. The book has nothing further on the children, or of wife Jane, but says William Montgomery died in Iowa in 1823.

As helpful as this biographical sketch was in learning about Martha ( Montgomery) Henderson's families, Montgomery and Henderson, it contains several errors of date and place on the Henderson family. According to it Martha's in-laws, David and Elizabeth (Orr) Henderson lived at Clarksburg, Indiana - they actually lived at Clarksburg, Indiana County, Pennsylvania. It also says that David and Elizabeth Henderson were born in 1747 and 1754 respectively, emigrated from Tyrone Ireland in 1791, lived first at Shippensburg PA then to Clarksburg IN. These are more likely the birth dates of David's parents Robert and Mary Ann (Ralston) Henderson, David was probably born between 1776 and 1782. The 1776 and 1782 dates are from the LDS IGI, a submission and not a records extraction, and I have no other confirmation of those dates, but it fits information on the Henderson family in 'History of Indiana County, Pennsylvania' - Robert and Mary Ann (Ralston) Henderson from Ireland, resided in Indiana Co PA by 1796/97, son "David m. Eliza Orr".

The above paragraph is a long way of saying William Montgomery may have died in Iowa in 1823, but that isn't necessarily correct. There is a town/village of Iowa in Pine Creek Twp, Jefferson PA, not all that far from where the Hendersons lived in Indiana Co. One would assume that the Montgomerys and Hendersons lived fairly close to each other for Martha Montgomery to have met and married Robert Henderson in 1828. If William died in IA in 1823 did his family, or part of it, not go with him? Or, did they come back to PA after his death? If William did go to IA could the 1823 death date be incorrect, or could it actually be the date of his wife Jane? - and could William have gone to IA after 1823 then?

'Past and Present Fayette County Iowa' by George William Fitch, published 1910, has a biographical sketch of William M. Horn, Sr. who lived at Maynard, Fayette IA. He married in 1865 to Sarah Montgomery, daughter of Archibald and Eleanor (Kilgore) Montgomery of Colesburg, Delaware IA. Archibald and Eleanor moved to IA in 1842 from Mercer Co PA; Archibald's father William Montgomery preceeded him, coming to IA in 1840, died there in 1866.
