Sarah Glew was born Feb 28, 1825 near Phillipsburg, PA in Centre County. She was one of nine children born to Joseph Glew and Sarah Wright. Joseph Glew was born Oct 24, 1794 in Belper, Derbyshire, England. He married Sarah Wright on Dec 1 1817 in Duffield, England. Sarah Wright was born Feb 2 1797 also in Belper, Derbyshire, England.

It is not known yet when the Glew family immigrated to the United States, but in the 1856 Iowa State Census Joseph and Sarah Glew, both born England, had been in the state for 18 years, since 1838.

Sarah Glew married James Montgomery on November 1, 1840 at Cottage Hill, Dubuque County, IA.

Sarah died at Ledyard, IA in Kossuth County on Nov 29, 1909 while living with her daughter and son-in-law, Charles and Martha Ruffcorn. She was then taken to Independence, IA and buried in the family plot next to her husband.
