| My great aunt Cherie wrote in a letter to my father dated 1981 "I believe my dad's parents died when he was quite small (Peter and Emilie), and he was reared by an aged grandmother (Elionetta) whom I only met once while she was on her death bed. At the time she was living in the Pine Ridge area of South Dakota. She spoke mostly French - her English was strongly accented - I remember she called me "Ma Cherie". Mother was with her, having taken me along, during her last days. Her death occurred during the early 1900's." | |
