Since the early 1980's, I have wondered where this unusual last name comes from. Using my grandfather Del's delayed birth registration, I have gathered this information. It is not yet complete, but the story is interesting. You may, as I did, learn more about yourself and your family by learning where you come from.

The Big Picture shows the generation charts and fan charts.

Surname variations gives you a list of all surnames and the different spellings I have run into.

Our Stories are gathered from newspapers & written memories. I start with the stories that Aunt Jan has written and published in the Algona newspaper. . . Send me yours.

Vital Records is a chart of all Ancestors. If the link is blue, you can view the document I use for proof.

Don't forget to look at Photos. View my pages at FamilyTreeMaker.com by clicking here.

I am always adding new info. View the large amount of information on each line below.

Joan (Leaneagh) Wright

I am tracing the Leaneagh/Lenagh/Leneaugh family history from Ireland, and all branches from England (Elwell), France (Janis, Iott, Thibault, Barada, Cote), Scotland (Palmer), Norway (Admundson), and German/Dutch (Shaddle).

Peter Lenagh was born in Ireland about 1837. He lived in the St. Charles, MO area in 1870-1880's, and married Emily Iott in St. Charles. Both of them died in St. Charles leaving 7 children in the hands of their grandparents, Elionetta Janis and Sefroy Iott, who took them to the Dakota Territory about 1885.
